Waiting on the Lord

Have you been praying about something and feel that as if nothing is happening? Are you growing tired and weary wondering why God isn’t answering yet? Do you feel anxious that God seems to be ignoring you?

We all feel this way sometimes. Actually, many times until God answers.

It is really human nature to dread waiting. We regularly get upset waiting in line paying the bills or driving behind a slow-moving car. This attitude often passes on to our spiritual lives as well. Yet the Bible tells us to “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart.” (Psalm 27:14a)

God’s Word encourages us to be courageous and wait expectantly for Him to answer. There is a big difference between waiting passively to waiting expectantly.

Passive waiting is like, “Okay, God, I know You’re in control of everything. I know You’ve heard my prayers. So now it’s all up to You.”

Expectant waiting is this: “I believe in Your perfect timing, Lord. In the meantime, I will prepare and be ready to receive Your answer.”

Once we have asked God something or prayed to Him about something, we should wait on Him full of hope. We need to think and act and live and behave that it is bound to happen, so we prepare for it. Of course, this is in the context that what we are praying about is according to God’s will.

In the movie Facing the Giants, Mr. Bridges told Coach Grant Taylor to prepare for rain. Here is the excerpt:

"Grant, I heard a story about two farmers who desperately needed rain. And both of them prayed for rain, but only one of them went out and prepared his fields to receive it. Which one do you think trusted God to send the rain?"

“Well, the one who prepared his fields for it.”

“Which one are you? God will send the rain when He's ready. You need to prepare your fields to receive it."

What we can see in this dialogue is God appreciates expectant waiting. As long as we give our best in every area of our lives for His glory, He will let the blessings fall down in His own time.

Are you praying for a change in your family relationships? An improved health? A promotion in your career? Or a breakthrough in your ministry? Wait expectantly on the Lord, give your best in all areas of your life, and get ready to receive the blessings that He has planned to shower on you since the beginning.
