What Drives You Everyday?

“Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.” – Psalm 73:25
Most Christians would say that they do everything as an act of worship to God. The Bible actually said that as followers of Christ we should eat, drink, and do everything else for God's glory.

However, the question is how is our hearts when we do it? Is that what we are truly doing? What drives or motivates us daily with our activities?

HIDDEN MOTIVES

Most people can’t answer those questions. Sure, they can probably say that their hearts were genuine on a specific activity based on available money and time. But beneath such obvious reasons lie motivations rarely acknowledged.

Usually, these hidden motives determine our actions in our daily lives. It could be the need to achieve, the desire to prove one’s worth, the push of a guilty conscience, or the drive of an unhealthy appetite.

LEADING TO IDOLATRY

When we are driven by such motives, praise and worship don’t even seem to fit anymore. In effect, we give in to little, lesser gods without even realizing it. Misguided motivations can easily lead us astray.

GOD REVEALS HIMSELF

God longs to free us from that trap. He invites us to worship Him.

Then, as we do, He pours His worth into us. As He brings our hidden motivations to light, we can choose to replace them with the real desire to please only Him.

And this frees us from our fears and from living self-protecting, self-promoting lives.

Final Notes:

God sets us free to live the abundant life, free to worship Him. Let’s ask Him why we do what we do. What motivates and inspires us. He knows us more than we know ourselves, and He loves us very much.
