“I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.” – Psalm 119:7
Praising God is natural for those who truly love
Him.
And truly loving Him is shown in our obedience to
His Word. Praise is basically linked to our character.
When we praise and worship God, He focuses on the
conditions of our hearts. An outward act that seems religious to people can look unpleasant
in God’s eyes because it came from a heart that is tainted.
God sees our superficial actions not in the way man
sees them, but as an image of what He sees inside.
It doesn’t matter if we go to church every Sunday to
praise Him, and yet we lie, steal, gossip, and fornicate during the remaining
six days. Our act will still be abominable to Him.
For us to truly worship Him, the intent of our
hearts and the work of our lives should be in one accord for His glory.
Even though we may not do this perfectly all the
time, grace covers us as we seek His Kingdom and righteousness.
Our prayer: Help us, Lord, to live with an upright
heart, covered by Your grace and righteousness. Let Your Spirit lead us as we
seek to bring glory to Your name with our obedience. Forgive us of all our
unrighteousness and create in us clean hearts, as we praise and worship you
with an upright heart this day. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.
