Lead Your Year in Prayer

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

Not everyone is excited about beginning a new year. For some, it is a reminder that life is just passing them by and they are still far away from their hopes and dreams. Others think of a new year as something dreadful because they are obligated to do “promised” resolutions. While there are also people who are plain indifferent about starting a new year and see it as just another ordinary day.

As children of God, the New Year should hold great importance to us as it means that God took us through an old year and is ready to be with us again in the coming year, and the years ahead.

Whatever circumstance we may be in right now, the best thing to do is to lead our year in prayer. This means that we begin the year, and maintain it, in constant communication with God our Father who is in heaven watching over us and empowering us to do the things that He wanted us to accomplish.

Yes, there are needs. There are the essentials in life that we need to provide for ourselves, and our wife and children. There are many troubles to come, and so are many triumphs. But the most important thing is to keep in touch with the Lord and always pour our hearts to Him.

“Cares will come, not to be carried, but to be released into God’s hands.Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Prayer’s power is not gauged by the articulateness of the person praying but by God’s power who hears and answers. We can pray anywhere, anytime, and about anything, and you can be sure that God is listening carefully.

We must not let the weight of our circumstances keep us from fulfilling our God given purposes. If there would be a time when we can’t find the words and the only expressions we can say are “Help me, Lord!” and “Oh, God!” rest assured that He knows what we are going through and He understands what we are trying to tell Him.

“God’s understanding of your need is much greater than your ability to express it. Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him!” Matthew 6:8

So in starting the New Year, let us not forget to lead every day with a prayer to the Lord, coming from our broken and contrite hearts. A heart that is submitted to His will and encouraged by His presence. 

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart– These, O God, You will not despise.” Psalm 51:17
